Mother Earth provides a wealth of resources that help us to maintain our health and wellness. Herbalism is an approach to healing that uses plant-based preparations. These preparations can be taken internally or used externally where the preparations are received into the body through the skin. Herbal preparations are used to encourage and support optimal body function, allowing the body to heal itself. It must be noted, natural healing takes time.
In herbal formulations, an experienced herbalist will combine herbs using a stimulating herb that helps to transport the benefits of the other herbs. Balance is an important factor in our approach to using herbs as medicine. Correct identification of any plant being used in an herbal preparation is essential. If used appropriately, herbal remedies rarely cause side effects. However, one should not take or use herbal preparations if taking any prescription medications, during pregnancy, or while nursing without the approval of your health care provider or unless under the supervision of a knowledgeable herbalist.
Our newest course will provide a foundation for individuals interested in formulating and creating their own herbal preparations. Preparations will include infusions, decoctions, tinctures, infused herbal wine, syrups, infused oils, salves, steams, compresses and poultices. Students in our course will receive an herbal kit of ingredients to utilize in their course. Enrollment is now open for our course.
